Fashioning a Sustainable Future: Carbon Literacy for Fashion
The fashion industry has a significant impact on the environment and the climate crisis. From the production of raw materials to the disposal of clothing, the industry is responsible for a considerable amount of greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and waste. While in the last couple of years, companies around the globe have made commitments to tackle the climate crisis, the fashion sector needs to show more signs of slowing down and reducing its climate impact. Under the current trajectory, fashion will fall short of the 1.5ºC pathway by 50%.
To meet net-zero and address the scale and urgency of the climate emergency, sharing knowledge and expertise, showcasing positive behaviours, and championing best practice is crucial. The fashion industry is a huge contributor to the climate and ecological emergency, and there is a pressing need for Carbon Literacy in the sector.
