Mobilising the Green Arc: can mobility re-design places?
The Government’s commitment to develop a spatial framework for the Ox-Cam Arc gives the region a unique opportunity to fundamentally change how we develop sustainable and connected places.
We have the ambition for the Arc be a world-leader in sustainability. And the region has a critical mass of expertise and capabilities that can help us to achieve this, with many of the clever zero carbon and connected technology solutions being designed and tested here. But a lot needs to change if we are to embed innovation in an effective and coordinated way that genuinely improves how people live, work and move around.
What role does mobility have in creating a better future for us?
How do we move from discussing ‘future’ mobility and get on with the practical actions to build what we need in today’s infrastructure?
Can the Arc be the place where we do things differently? Afterall, If we continue to think and do what we’ve always done, we’ll end up with what we’ve always had.
Further discussion points:
The carbon reduction targets we have, sends a strong message. But we all know that the practicality of achieving these is complex.
- If we know what many of the issues are and we know many of the solutions – what practical things (3) do we need to do now to get these built into today’s plans and delivered?
- And what are the enablers/ barriers?
- Is technology being constrained to fit into the infrastructure we have today? What do we need to do change so that innovation can land properly, quickly?
