Find Your Future at free careers and employment event

Residents looking for work or training opportunities are invited to a free careers and employment event on Wednesday, 28 November.
The Find Your Future event is being held at The Rufus Centre on Steppingley Road, Flitwick.

The morning session, which runs until 2.30pm, is a closed session for schools, but from 3-6pm, the event is open to anyone who is seeking their next career move, including adults, young people, university graduates, parents and carers. There will also be support available for anyone who is unemployed or not in education or training.

The event will see leading local businesses exhibiting on the day from a range of different areas including engineering, construction, health and social care, travel and tourism, transport and logistics, agriculture and food, research and development and high-performance technologies.

Visitors will have the chance to secure work experience, traineeships, apprenticeships and employment opportunities. There will also be exhibitors offering interactive demonstrations and sessions, such as using social media to get a job, CV writing and Parent Career Information Workshops. New for this year, the event has an interactive zone, dedicated to experiencing, first-hand, a range of fun and educational activities from a range of sectors represented at the event. Activities include a media suite, hairdressing and virtual reality.

Central Bedfordshire Council has organised the event and will be exhibiting, joined by sponsors Central Bedfordshire College (headline sponsors), SEMLEP, Kier Group, MJ Hillson Group, 4YP. Other exhibitors include luxury wedding cake designer, Creme De La Cakes, who have featured on Channel 4 programme Extreme Cake Maker; Center Parcs, ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, Royal Air Force and Amazon.

As well as being able to talk with the experts about what’s out there in terms of jobs and training and what skills are needed to access them.
Councillor Steven Dixon, Executive Member for Families, Education and Children, said: “We are working proactively with local businesses and organisations to offer pathways into work and training. We’re delighted to be running our second ever Find Your Future event after our inaugural careers and employment fair last year proved so successful. For example, one of our visitors secured a job within 30 seconds of arriving at the venue.

“This year we’ve got further opportunities for visitors to speak with many of Central Bedfordshire’s leading businesses and organisations about their current vacancies, work experience, apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities, and there will also be interactive sessions and inspirational talks by experts in their field.
“So, if you are looking for work or training – or have friends and family members who are – please let them know about the event and come along between 3pm and 6pm.”
