Andrew Selous MP officially opened Amazon’s Fulfilment Centre in Boscombe Road, Dunstable, this week. The fulfilment centre opened last autumn and now employs more than 1,500 people in permanent roles.
 
Andrew was joined at the official opening by Ali Hadawi CBE, Principle and Chief Executive of Central Bedfordshire College, and Andy Lewis, Business Support Officer, Regeneration and Business Directorate, Central Bedfordshire Council. They were hosted by Amazon UK’s Regional Operations Director, Nic Sweeney.
 
Nic Sweeney said:
“Amazon was delighted to welcome Andrew Selous to officially open our Dunstable Fulfilment Centre. We opened the site last autumn, shipping our first order in October 2015.Amazon has created hundreds of new jobs in Dunstable so far this year and now employs more than 1,500 people in permanent positions at the site, from operations managers to engineers, HR and IT roles to people who will handle customer orders.
 
“The Dunstable fulfilment centre has this year been equipped with the latest and most advanced Amazon Robotics technology. The Amazon teams are dedicated to innovating in our fulfilment centres to increase speed of delivery while enabling greater selection at lower costs for our customers. The introduction of Amazon Robotics is the newest example of our commitment to invention in logistics on behalf of our employees and our customers.”

“We have taken steps to make Central Bedfordshire a desirable place for major employers to invest, so Amazon’s decision to open a fulfilment centre in Dunstable is a real success story and a prime example that the town is on the up. As well as being a wonderful facility, it is fantastic news that Amazon’s arrival has created more jobs in the area, playing a significant role in our aim of making Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work. This is underpinned by a range of major regeneration schemes, which are not going unnoticed by major businesses, such as the forthcoming A5-M1 and Woodside link roads, our Market Towns Regeneration Fund programme and our High Street Improvement Scheme.”
